April 29th, 2009

If you look at the psychology of how people shop, it is clear that many people impulse buy when they may have not necessarily meant to. It determines where the products are being sold and also how they advertised.

One place prone to impulse purchasing is supermarkets and department stores. It is in these places where people feel comfortable and often feel under pressure to buy there and then. The feeling of missing out overwhelms people to purchase at these points in case the deal ends and they have missed out on an opportunity.

So how does a business find where to buy point of purchase displays?

There are specialists companies that offer the opportunity to purchase specific point of purchase displays from them. Depending on what it is a company is looking to sell, there are point of purchase displays for almost any product. Mobile phones, trainers and car parts to name a few, are common objects that are often displayed on point of purchase displays.

So how can point of purchase displays help selling techniques?

It is essential to understand the rewards that a point of purchase display can present to a business. The pressure people feel when seeing products at one of these displays urges them to purchase there and then. This is different to how people feel when they are presented with the option of coming back because they know they can sleep on their decision.

Other selling techniques that come with the point of purchase display are mainly down to the presentation of products. It has been proven that people buy with their eyes, they may not necessarily need to touch or feel a product, which may explain the popularity with online purchasing.

However, for those people that do want to look at – for example-  a mobile phone, point of purchase lets a customer have the best of both worlds with the ability to play with a product as well as reading and asking about it.

Many specialists in point of purchase displays will have bespoke displays for a variety of products. There is a wide variety of point of purchase displays available and there will be a display unit for most products.

What Products Are Sold At Point Of Purchase Posts?

February 17th, 2009

There are many shops and stores that often have point of purchase sections for quick and convenient spending. It has been shown that impulse buying is more common than maybe people first thought. Reasons for this is because buyers don’t want to feel they are missing out on a bargain and are worried it may not be there next time they return to the shop.

So what do buyers purchase from point of purchase displays?

Point of purchase displays can be developed for certain products that include:
•    Mobile Phones
•    Cosmetics
•    Clothes and accessories
•    Trainers and shoes
•    Car parts

The reason items such as those mentioned above are sold at point of purchase displays is because they are items that people may not need but they want. The instant purchase of that item often is more appealing to a consumer than the waiting and queuing for items that they have to go to a specialist shop for. Point of purchase display are very useful in shops for making quick sales that may have been missed if only placed on shelves as part of the store.

It is important for displays to clearly show the buyer what is on offer. How impulse buyers decide to spend their money can be influenced by the amount of distractions that are around them in the time of buying. It has been said that the use of colour, patterns and signs in the area of purchasing, the more likely it is people will part with their cash.

Buyers prefer to spend at point of purchase displays because they can see before them, the items they are about to buy. They also know the minute they pay, the item is there’s and the feeling of this immediate gratification is intensified when buying from a point of purchase display.

The Importance Of Quality Retail Point Of Purchase Displays

January 23rd, 2009

Impulse buys tend to make supermarkets, retail chains and department stores a strong amount of money. In fact, they are incredibly big business on their own, without the help of the rest of the store. Impulse buys are effectively those displays that are located right by the cash register that entice people to buy when they may not thought of doing so. The retail point of purchase displays that are used to draw attention to promotions are often extremely high quality, especially when purchased from a reliable company like Rockingham Displays.

All good shops will have retail point of purchase displays throughout their store, from huge banners identifying sale goods and the up to date offers, to point of sale displays that draws a consumers attention to new products. Promotional techniques do not need to be over sized to be effective but a good design is important. Colours and large lettering usually grabs attention. However, a variety of creativity is ore effective because individuals may ignore smaller displays, missing the point of a point of purchase display. But larger displays can be a nuisance and become in the way of the product you’re trying to sell, so you have to cater for all preferences in order for a point of purchase display to work.

Unlike sales units, retail point of purchase units are designed to draw attention to themselves in order to attract potential customers. They are specifically targeted to the clientele and the necessary demographic groups. As such, it is important that you employ a firm such as Rockingham Display that specialise in retail point of purchase design and put together the materials designed for an effective point of purchase display, after all, your business could depend on it.

Impulse Purchasing from Point of Purchase

December 17th, 2008

Supermarkets and shops have the right idea.

The most effective way that has been found to have people hand over money is at a point of purchase. Shoppers tend to “impulse buy” when they feel the product is too good to miss.

A point of purchase also acts as a ‘try before you buy’ stall, and this is more appealing to shoppers than a cabinet or stuffy display. A customer wants to know the ins and outs of the product they want to buy. Rockingham Display can provide all types of point of purchase and retail stalls.

Point of Purchase: For example…

A great example of this is found in mobile phone shops. The vast range of mobile phones that are available on the market today means that people often do not know what they are buying, what features each phone has and how easy it is to use. But the retail shop display means that with dummy phones, the customer can see how the phone looks, the size and weight of the phone and whether it was what they actually wanted without having the pressure of buying there and then. However the option to walk in and buy off the shelf is also available.

However this type of point of purchasing differs from shop to shop. Depending on the product that is being sold, each display case and point of purchase unit is unique. The more expensive products such as jewellery are kept in cabinets for obvious reasons, and have to be taken out of the case and handled with care. The buyer then has time to think about the purchase and deliberate whether it is the right choice.

The impulse purchasing from point of purchase means that businesses can have instant sales with expensive items such as televisions or everyday items such as clothes and shoes, but with cabinets and cases cater for the more unique items that consumers may need more time to think over.

Retail Shop Interiors

November 7th, 2008

Retail shop interiors are exceptionally important for businesses in the sector as they can determine whether a customer makes a purchase in the store or not. You need to consider various things such as POS, joinery, counter placement, product placement, lighting, flooring and general store layout. Achieving the right balance is essential in running a successful retail business.

Point of Purchase

November 4th, 2008

The point of purchase is the area in a business environment where a sal is made. Most often in retail this occurs at a checkout where a sales assistant will maually oversee the buying process with the customer. Point of sale (POS) units often exist in these environments which physically promote products within the premises. This can come in the form of poster advertisements, banners, interactive features, testing stations, sales staff and promotional events within a store.

Point of Purchase vs Internet Shopping

October 14th, 2008

There are many advantages of Internet purchasing. A consumer is sometimes offered a tempting discount and often free delivery. There is always the anticipation of waiting for it to arrive, and then the excitement when it does.  However, there is the hassle if the product never arrives in the two to three working days time, if it arrives at all. This is when the annoyance starts. Constant emails and lack of replies can become a problem, especially to those who work every weekday, leaving Saturdays to phone around, chasing the order (as the company is more than likely to be closed Sunday). Thus the result being you’ve actually spent more in total on phone bills and electric bills from using the Internet for checking and sending emails, as well as the added stress from not having the enjoyment of your order instantly. But of course for some people these situations may never occur through years of Internet shopping, but the question is it worth the risk when there is a solution.

That solution is Point of Purchase buying. The gratification is instant and if there is a problem, however big or small, a quick trip back to the shop, the problem is normally resolved there and then, and if not, money back is normally guaranteed.

This is the importance of Point of Purchase displays and can be the difference between sale in store and a sale online. If products are displayed in certain ways, on shelves and racks, and in cabinets and cases, the consumer is automatically drawn to the product, just as they are with highly designed websites. The main aim is to attract consumer attention and gain interest in a product. There are certain methods of presenting in the best way possible using certain companies that specify in displaying merchandise to a high standard, which will therefore result in a high interest for that product and then of course that business.

Every consumer knows the temptation of a purchase when it is available there and then, especially when there is a sale, or the seller is willing to be negotiated down to the price that is featured online. And of course as soon as the exchange of money for product is complete, the euphoric feeling obtained from a purchase, however great or small, cannot be matched from simply clicking ‘Purchase Now’.
